yliopiston Tiedekulmassa Stirlingin yliopiston taloustieteen
professoria Dow'ta, joka on kirjoittanut laajalti muun muassa
taloustieteen metodologiasta ja oppihistoriasta. Lisäksi hän on
työskennellyt muun muassa Englannin keskuspankissa ja
Ison-Britannian hallituksen rahapoliittisena neuvonantajana.
Yhdessa ajatuspaja Kalevi Sorsa -säätiön kanssa järjestetyssä,
englanninkielisessä haastattelussa keskustellaan muun muassa
taloustieteen poliittisesta merkityksestä ja taloustieteen
koulukunnista. Kuten muissa yhteiskuntatieteissä, myös
taloustieteessä on erilaisia koulukuntia. Nämä koulukunnat
saattavat olla teoreettisilta ja filosofisilta lähtökohdiltaan
erilaisia. Keskustelu koulukuntaeroista typistyy kuitenkin usein
siihen, että valtavirrasta poikkeavat näkemykset tuomitaan
harhaoppisiksi ja epätieteellisiksi. Mistä tämä johtuu, ja miksi
myös taloustiede tarvitsee nykyistä enemmän pluralismia?

episode of the podcast is a recording of our live interview with
Professor Sheila Dow. Dow is an Emeritus Professor of economics at
the University of Stirling, UK. She has published vastly on, for
example, the methodology of economics and the history of economic
thought. Moreover, she has worked for the Bank of England and as a
monetary policy advisor for the UK government. The interview covers
such issues as the political power of economics and the differences
between different schools of thought in economics. Like other
social sciences, economics comes with different schools of thought.
However, it is commonplace to run into the argument that
non-mainstream approaches are somewhat irrelevant and even
unscientific. Why is this the case, and why do we need pluralism in
economics as well? The interview took place in Helsinki on June 14.
