GEORGIA RADIO – As part of our ongoing series highlighting local
Georgia authors, GeorgiaRadio.com is excited to
introduce Alice Takawira, a remarkable writer whose journey from
Zimbabwe to Atlanta has enriched the literary scene with diverse
cultural narratives.
Alice Takawira was born and raised in Zimbabwe, where she
received a bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy from the University
of Zimbabwe. Her career initially took her to London, but in
2004, she relocated to the United States to attend Emory
University, earning a master’s degree in public health. Now
settled in Atlanta, Alice balances her professional life as a
geriatric physical therapist with her passion for writing and
community engagement. In addition to her medical career, Alice is
the creator of the Verenga Girls Book Club on Facebook, a vibrant
community where book lovers come together to discuss their
favorite reads. The book club, inspired by her love for
literature, serves as a platform for connecting with fellow
readers and sharing diverse literary experiences.
Alice's debut novel, "Turning Tables," is a gripping romantic
thriller that explores the complexities of multicultural
relationships. The story follows Maita, a Zimbabwean graduate
student, on a journey from Atlanta to London in a bid to reclaim
her love with Ade, her Nigerian ex-boyfriend. However, fate
introduces her to Chris, a charming British gentleman, leading to
a tumultuous love triangle fraught with challenges of racism,
cultural differences, and personal insecurities. "Turning Tables"
delves into the trials and triumphs of immigrant experiences,
weaving a poignant narrative of love, missed opportunities,
second chances, and the dangers of obsession. The novel offers
readers a captivating exploration of the intersections between
different cultures and the impact of these intersections on
personal relationships.
When she's not writing or working, Alice enjoys relaxing with a
glass of wine and binge-watching foreign-language dramas. She
also loves to travel, explore exotic foods, and learn new
languages, further enriching her multicultural perspective.
