The Underground Railroad in the Midwest. When some think of the
Underground Railroad, many think of conductor Harriet Tubman and
the eastern seaboard routes she followed. However, the
Underground Railroad had players and routes in what is now the
Midwest, including Illinois and Indiana. CR Gibbs will discuss
the Midwestern system complimenting the “Road to Freedom: The
Underground Railroad in the DMV” lecture that he often gives in
Metro DC.
