In October 2017, Sidewalk Labs, a sister company to Google, signed
a deal with organization Waterfront Toronto to develop a "smart
city" technological hub in the key-side area.

In the past year the project has gained some controversy over its
private dealings which aren't seen by the public eye. CJRU reporter
Chelsey Gould gathered the views of some the critics at a panel
held last Thursday by the Centre for Free Expression.
