Ending with a joint focus on Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, Chris Christie got a rousing reaction.

"We have a man who wants to lead us," Christie said. "We have a man who understands the frustrations and the aspirations of our fellow citizens."

He continued: "We have a man who judges people based on their performance regardless of your gender, race, ethnic or religious background. We do not need to settle for less."

He said America shouldn't "reward incompetence and deceit."

Christie repeated the frequent theme tonight that Clinton would be four more years of Barack Obama.

"It is our obligation to stop Hillary Clinton now and never let her within 10 miles of the White House again," Christie said. "It is time to come together and make sure that Donald Trump is our next President. I am proud to be part of this team. Now let’s go win this thing."

Paul Ryan, the 2012 GOP vice presidential candidate, took the stage here at the Q with awkwardness in the background: He has outspokenly criticized Donald Trump and took his time to endorse Trump after he effectively clinched the nomination.

He also joked about his last turn at the RNC four years, saying tonight had "a familiar feel."

Ryan addressed the discontent within the party from some (including his former running mate, Mitt Romney) with Trump.

“Have we had our arguments this year? Sure we have. You know what I call those? Signs of life," Ryan said.

And he focused mostly on the problems with Democrats.

“Meanwhile, what choice has the other party made in this incredible year filled with so many surprises?” Ryan said.

By way of a "clean break," he said, “they are offering you a third Obama term brought to you by another Clinton. And you are supposed to be excited by that.”

The crowd was warm to Ryan, but by no means as roused as they were last night by Rudy Giuliani, for example.

It was hard not to see his speech under the backdrop of how the party has moved away from him over the last four years.

He did get one big applause line: Unity.

"Let's win this thing," he said as he finally won over the crowd.

Indiana Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb says he was relaxing, wearing an Indianapolis minor league baseball team's uniform just hours ago when he got a frantic phone call from the Mike Pence campaign.

They asked how soon he could get to The Quicken Loans Arena.

"So I changed clothes and started writing" the nomination speech, Holcomb said. "You never know when you'll be called to duty!"

Just hours later Holcomb was on the stage at the convention, nominating Pence for vice president.

Pence is scheduled to deliver his acceptance speech Wednesday night.

Donald Trump gave a short video message to the crowd after formally being nominated.

“We’re going to make America great again," he said. "Have a fantastic evening, I’ll see you tomorrow night, I’ll see you Thursday night, and we will win in November.”

The crowd applauded him, but the energy level has gone significantly down since the nominating roll call.
