Mwano – Umgang mit einem kolonialen Archiv Mwano bedeutet auf
Douala „Strategie“ und ist der Name eines Projekts am
Ethnologischen Museum. Es bezeichnet die Strategie, mit der ein
deutsch-kamerunisches künstlerisch-wissenschaftlich-aktivitisches
Team die Kamerun-Sammlungen des Ethnologischen Museums öffnen und
das Land in Ausstellungen differenzierter darstellen will. Das Team
stellt aus Fotografien und Tonträgern aus der Zeit der deutschen
Kolonialherrschaft einen Ausstellungszyklus zusammen, bei dem
jeweils ein Fokus gesetzt wird: Architektur, Menschen und
Beziehungen, Kunst und Handwerk, Sozial- und Machtstrukturen und
Leerstellen. In dieser Folge des Podcasts hört Ihr von zwei
Menschen aus diesem Projekt. Gesprächspartnerinnen in der
Reihenfolge ihres Auftritts Augustine Moukodi ist Autorin,
Regisseurin und Produzentin aus Kamerun. Sie forscht zur
Kolonialgeschichte und ist General Secretary des kamerunischen Arms
der Worlds Association of Cultural Actresses zur Stärkung der Rolle
von Frauen in der Kulturwelt. Gina Knapp ist Kuratorin für Visuelle
Anthropologie in der Medienabteilung des Ethnologischen Museum und
Museum für asiatische Kunst in Berlin. Sie ist Anthropologin und
Filmemacherin mit umfangreicher Forschungs- und Filmerfahrung in
Papua-Neuguinea, wo sie seit 1997 Forschungsprojekte durchführt.
Mwano – Working with a colonial archive Mwano in Douala means
strategy and is the name of a project at the Ethnologisches Museum.
It refers to the strategy with which a German-Cameroonian
artistic-scientific-activist team aims to open up the Cameroon
collections of the Ethnologisches Museum and present the country
more differentiatedly in exhibitions. The team is assembling a
series of exhibitions from photographs and audio recordings from
the period of German colonial rule, each focusing on a specific
theme: architecture, people and relationships, art and crafts,
social and power structures, and omissions. In this episode of the

Interviewees in the order of their appearance Augustine Moukodi is
an author, director and producer from Cameroon. She researches
colonial history and is General Secretary of the Cameroonian branch
of the der Worlds Association of Cultural Actresses for the
empowerment of women in the cultural world. Gina Knapp is a curator
for visual anthropology in the media department of the
Ethnologisches Museum and Museum für Asiatische Kunst Berlin. She
is an anthropologist and filmmaker with extensive research and film
experience in Papua New Guinea, where she has been conducting
research projects since 1997.
