Prof. Sapna Cheryan ist Professorin an der University of
Washington und erforscht dort unter anderem den Einfluss
kultureller Vorurteile auf das Zugehörigkeitsgefühl im
MINT-Bereich. Im Rahmen des MesH_MINT Expert Meetings 2025 hat
Alexandra Resch von der Gesellschaft für Informatik e. V. mit
Prof. Sapna Cheryan über solche Stereotypen, wie zum Beispiel
Masculine Defaults, gesprochen. Aber auch darüber, wie wir
MINT-Begeisterung vorurteilsfreier und inklusiver vermitteln
können.

Die MINTige Lieblingsserie von Prof. Sapna Cheryan ist „Silicon
Valley”. Die Serie wurde von 2014 bis 2019 ausgestrahlt und
umfasst sechs Staffeln. Laut Prof. Cheryan zeigt sie sehr gut die
Vielfalt der Menschen, die im Silicon Valley arbeiten.

MINT-Blowing #18  Belonging in STEM: The role of
space and stereotype With Prof. Sepna Cheryan (University of
Washington)


Prof. Sapna Cheryan is a professor at the University of
Washington. Her research explores how cultural stereotypes affect
the sense of belonging in STEM fields. As part of the MesH_MINT
Expert Meeting 2025, Alexandra Resch from the German Informatics
Society (GI) spoke with Prof. Cheryan about these stereotypes and
how we can promote STEM enthusiasm in a more inclusive and
unbiased way.

Prof. Sapna Cheryan’s favorite STEM-related series is Silicon
Valley. The show aired from 2014 to 2019 and ran for six seasons.
According to Prof. Cheryan, it reflects the diverse types of
people working in Silicon Valley very well.
