In this episode, Arno talks with Michael Arnold Mages and Stephen
Neely about their book "Somaesthetic Design. The Experiencing Body
and the Dynamics of Time". As they summarize in an interview on the
publisher's homepage: "This book grew from a simple realization:
our most powerful experiences are bodily and unfold in-time, yet
much design still ignores felt time. Human experience manifests as
gestures, rhythms, and flows, yet design practices have lacked a
language for these understandings. This book bridges that gap,
offering tools for designers that place time, embodiment, and lived
experience at the center." Michael Arnold Mages teaches in the
Information Design+Data Visualization and Experience Design
programs at Northeastern University, where he is an Associate
Professor of Design in the Department of Art & Design, and
director of the Health and Wellness Design Lab. Stephen Neely is a
teacher, theorist, and clinician who lectures and presents
workshops in the fields of design, music, architecture, and
pedagogy. He also is the Milton and Cynthia Friedman Associate
Professor of Music and Director of Graduate Studies in the Carnegie
Mellon University School of Music.
