101-Year-Old Enid on WWII, the Great Depression & a Century of Life
30.06.2026
38 Minuten
At 101 years old, Enid Rayment has lived through some of the most defining moments of the 20th century.

Growing up during the Great Depression in Australia, Enid experienced hardship from an early age. Then came World War II. She remembers Sydney under the threat of Japanese attack, wartime rationing, and what everyday life was really like during one of history's darkest periods.

But Enid's story is about far more than war.

Over more than a century, she has raised a family, watched Australia transform, and discovered that happiness often comes from the simplest things in life.

In this episode of LifeLessons, Enid reflects on:

• Growing up during the Great Depression • Living through World War II in Australia • The Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour • Wartime rationing and life on the home front • Raising children and grandchildren across generations • How Australia has changed over the past 100 years • The advice she would give to her great-grandchildren • What 101 years have taught her about resilience, gratitude, and living a meaningful life

Enid's memories are a rare reminder that history isn't just something we read about—it's carried by the people who lived it.
