At 102 years old, Brian Barry has lived through some of the most
defining moments in modern history.Growing up during the Great
Depression in Sydney, Brian left school at a young age and landed
what he thought was the perfect job in a lolly factory. But
everything changed when World War II broke out. The factory
shifted to supporting the war effort, and before long, Brian
found himself serving as a soldier and heading into the unknown.

Sent to New Guinea during World War II, Brian witnessed the harsh
realities of war firsthand. Fear, uncertainty, loss, and survival
became part of everyday life. More than 80 years later, his
memories remain vivid, offering a rare and powerful glimpse into
one of history's darkest chapters. In this episode of Life
Lessons,

Brian reflects on:

• Growing up during the Great Depression

• Working in a lolly factory before WWII

• Being called to serve during World War II

• His journey to New Guinea as a young soldier

• The realities of war and survival• Loss, sacrifice, and
resilience

• What 102 years of life have taught him about happiness and
perspective

Brian's story is a remarkable reminder of the strength of the
human spirit and the lessons that can only come from living
through a century of change.️
