One of the biggest myths I hear all the time: “You need to learn German first.”


I share why learning too much High German first can sometimes actually make Swiss German harder later on, and why starting early — even with just a few words — can make a huge difference.


I also tell the story of one of my students who went from being too afraid to speak Swiss German… to doing job interviews in Swiss German.

For many parents, the idea is clear: school, then university. But in Switzerland, there’s another path — one that is just as respected, full of opportunities, and chosen by most young people: apprenticeships.
