  4. Living With Cancer: Resilience, Hope and Evidence-Based Decisions (Dale Atkinson)
What happens when the future you thought you were building
suddenly disappears?

In this deeply personal episode of Mirror Talk: Soulful
Conversations, Tobi sits down with Dale
Atkinson, a father, entrepreneur and cancer advocate
whose life changed dramatically in October 2024.

Within a matter of weeks, Dale’s partner underwent lung cancer
surgery; he received an advanced cancer diagnosis on his youngest
son’s first birthday, he lost his mother, and he was given a
prognosis of less than twelve months.

At one stage, Dale was admitted to palliative care while hospice
arrangements were being discussed.

But his journey took an unexpected turn.

In March 2025, scans showed that the metastases were no longer
visible and the primary tumour had reduced significantly. By
June, the tumour and metastases were no longer visible on his
scans. Later that year, renewed activity appeared in a lymph
node, confronting Dale once again with the uncertainty that comes
with living with cancer.

In this conversation, Dale speaks openly about fear, grief,
parenthood, hope, faith, treatment, setbacks and the importance
of making informed health decisions.

We also explore the dangers cancer patients face when searching
for answers online, including misinformation, exaggerated claims
and people attempting to profit from vulnerability.

Dale shares what his journey has taught him about asking better
questions, working with trusted healthcare professionals,
supporting other patients without losing himself in the process,
and redefining what success means when life becomes painfully
fragile.
