In this episode, we speak with Eugênio Bucci,
journalist, author and Full Professor at the University of São
Paulo. Based on his article Technology, Artificial Intelligence,
Disinformation, and Democratic Culture, we explore why
disinformation should not be understood only as false content,
but as a broader communicational environment that can produce
what Bucci calls “artificial ignorance.” We also
discuss how digital platforms turn attention and the human gaze
into economic value, how this affects democratic culture and
human subjectivity, and why children deserve particular attention
in debates about data extraction and attention capture. Finally,
we look at the role of democratic politics and regulation in
responding to the growing power of major technology corporations.
