Welcome to Bonjourno! Here, Olivia Samnick, a journalist, and
some fascinating guests explores the question: What does the
journalism of the future need?


In this special episode, we discuss the state of journalism in
the U.S. and the lessons we can draw from it for German
reporting. Joining us is Aaron Wiener, who until recently headed
the Berlin bureau of The Washington Post, owned by Jeff Bezos. In
February 2026, the “Post” cut about 300 jobs, including positions
in the sports desk and the regional and international news
departments. Aaron is also affected. And: Sydney Harper, who is
currently completing a Fulbright Fellowship in Berlin and
previously worked for the New York Times’ news podcast “The
Daily” and NPR. What do the layoffs at The Washington Post mean?
How has journalism evolved during Trump’s second term? What does
it take when reporters suddenly have to cover massive ICE raids?
