Tan Dun receives Bonn’s Beethoven Friendship Award. Hearing
Beethoven’s 6th Symphony in Hunan’s rice fields in 1973 changed his
life, inspiring him to unite Eastern ritual and Western art. He
sees Beethoven as a symbol of freedom, peace, and the universal
spirit of music.
