When Carrie Forster lost her daughter Amalia to a rare genetic
disease at the age of seven, her life came to a sudden halt. The
diagnosis, years of round-the-clock caregiving, the inevitable
goodbye — and the emptiness that followed — could have defined
everything. But Carrie’s story does not end in darkness.
In the course of our conversation, Carrie looks back on her early
career in the US, her move to Germany, and the moment her role as
mother to a terminally ill child changed her life forever. She
shares how she and her husband Frank managed to create moments of
joy for their daughter, despite Amalia's pain. Out of that
experience later came both Carrie’s new career path in coaching
as well as a start-up called Simplee — a food solution for people
who rely on tube feeding, based on the recipes Carrie once
prepared forAmalia.
Through her experience and her actions, Carrie reminds us that
kindness, curiosity, and even the smallest human gestures can
help us find meaning after tragedy. This episode is not always an
easy listen — but it is full of depth, warmth, and inspiration.
And, first and foremost, it is a reminder that even in the
hardest moments, there is still room for hope!
