Es ist Unabhängigkeitstag in Washington. Die Familie Sullivan fährt
schläfrig und zufrieden vom Feuerwerk nach Hause, als sie plötzlich
eine Entenmutter neben einem Gully bemerken.Die meisten
Autofahrer würden weiterfahren. Auch die Sullivans zögern,
doch der ängstliche Blick der Ente lässt sie langsamer werden.Sie
drehen um und halten erneut an derselben Stelle. Die Ente steht
immer noch reglos da, also sagt Tibis Ehemann: „Schauen
wir kurz nach.“Tibi steigt aus, schaut vorsichtig in den
Gully und hört leises Piepen. Vier Küken sitzen tief unten fest und
rufen nach ihrer Mutter.Die achtjährige Tochter
ruft aufgeregt: „Jetzt zählt nichts anderes!“ Damit wird aus
Sorge Tatendrang.Die Familie fährt nach Hause, holt schnell einen
Kescher und kehrt zurück. Ein Nachbar stellt seinen Truck
quer, damit die Straße sicher bleibt.Gemeinsam lassen sie den
Kescher hinab und heben das erste Küken behutsam
herauf. Schritt für Schritt folgen die anderen
drei.Sofort eilt die Mutterente herbei, quackt vor Freude und führt
ihre Küken weg vom Gully. Alle
atmen erleichtert auf.Später posten die Sullivans das
Video auf TikTok. Millionen von Menschen feiern die
kleine Rettungsaktion und werden daran erinnert, dass ein Moment
Freundlichkeit die Welt bewegen kann.

ENGLISH:
It is Independence Day in Washington. The Sullivan family drives
home sleepy and happy from the fireworks when they suddenly notice
a mother duck next to a storm drain. Most drivers would keep going.
The Sullivans hesitate too, but the duck’s anxious look makes them
slow down. They turn around and stop at the same spot again. The
duck is still motionless, so Tibi’s husband says, “Let’s just
check.” Tibi gets out, looks carefully into the drain, and hears
soft chirps. Four ducklings are trapped deep inside, calling for
their mother. Their eight-year-old daughter exclaims excitedly,
“Nothing else matters now!” Her words turn worry into action. The
family drives home, quickly fetches a net, and returns. A neighbor
parks his truck sideways so the street stays safe. Together they
lower the net and gently lift the first duckling up. Step by step,
the other three follow. At once the mother duck rushes over, quacks
with joy, and leads her ducklings away from the drain. Everyone
breathes in relief. Later the Sullivans post the video on TikTok.
Millions of people celebrate the small rescue and are reminded that
a moment of kindness can move the world.
