Luis Soriano grows up in rural Colombia, where many children have
no books and cannot read. As a teacher, he sees how much the
children struggle to learn without access to stories. Luis uses two
donkeys, Alfa and Beto, to build a mobile library: the Biblioburro.
He straps wooden boxes filled with books to their backs. Every
weekend, he travels for hours through mountains and rivers to reach
remote villages. The children eagerly await his visits for new
books and lessons. His library grows from 70 to over 4,000 books,
donated or bought by himself. He teaches the children to read and
reads aloud to those who can’t yet. Luis faces dangers like bandits
and wild animals, but he never stops. His kindness shows how one
person can change many lives. Today, the Biblioburro is famous in
Colombia and beyond. Luis believes: 'A child who reads can change
the world.' His story reminds us that creativity and care can bring
hope to places where it’s needed most.
