surgery, Althia wakes up in the hospital. Suddenly, she no longer
speaks like a Londoner. Her family and the medical staff are
astonished because Althia speaks with a strong Italian accent, even
though she has never been to Italy. Althia uses Italian words like
'Si' or 'Grazi', even though 'Grazi' is not correct Italian. Her
gestures while speaking now seem very typically Italian. Althia
herself is shocked. She does not understand why her voice and way
of speaking have suddenly changed. Doctors discover that Althia has
the rare 'Foreign Accent Syndrome.' All over the world, only about
200 cases have been documented. Because of the new accent, Althia
feels like a stranger in her own body. She often has to explain
what has happened to her. Her unusual case gets a lot of attention
