Denn noch immer werden Diamanten ebenso wie Gold in politisch unsicheren Zeiten als sichere Geldanlage angesehen. Trotzdem die weltweite Rohdiamantenförderung von über 177 Millionen Karat im Jahr 2005 auf unter 120 Millionen Karat im Jahr 2022 gesunken ist, künstlich hergestellte Diamanten kaum mehr von echten zu unterscheiden sind und die Förderstätten wie in Rußland und Kanada weitgehend erschöpft sind. This has, however, intensified rather than eased the fierce competition for global resources. Added to this are new scams involving the online sale of so-called diamonds.

Paul Parin (1916-2009) im Gespräch mit Karin Beindorff. Der Schweizer Psychologe, Ethnologe und Schriftsteller gilt als einer der maßgeblichen Mitbegründer:innen der Ethnopsychoanalyse. Auch wenn Paul Parin, zusammen mit seiner Frau Goldy Parin-Matthèy und Fritz Morgenthaler die Ethnopsychoanalyse bei den Dogon und Agni entwickelte und dies aufgrund der westlich-kolonialen Geschichte in Afrika kritisch sah, verteidigte er die Ethnopsychoanalyse als global gültige Erkenntnismethode. So verknüpft Paul Parins Forschung Psychoanalyse und Ethnologie. Sie hat insbesondere in einer globalisierten Warenwelt, der die globale Migration nachfolgt, eine große Bedeutung. Im 21. Jahrhundert sind psychotherapeutische Behandlungen von Migrant:innen ohne kulturelle Hintergründe kaum möglich. Gleiches gilt für traumatisierte Kriegsopfer.

Ethnopsychoanalytic research combines psychoanalysis and ethnology and is particularly important in a globalised world of commodities, which is followed by global migration. In the 21st century, psychotherapeutic treatment of migrants without cultural backgrounds is hardly possible. The same applies to traumatised war victims.

Der tunesisch-französische Autor, Essayist und Wissenschaftler Albert Memmi gehört zu den einflussreichsten Rassismusforschern unserer Zeit. In unserem Gespräch versucht er, den "Rassisten", seine Motivationen, Triebkräfte und Merkmale zu beschreiben. Rassismus ist für Albert Memmi an erster Stelle weder ein theoretisches soziales Konstrukt noch eine kapitalistische Ideologie: Vielmehr beschreibt Albert Memmi Rassismus auf der individuellen Ebene. Welchen direkten persönlichen Vorteil hat der Einzelne davon, andere Menschen zu diskriminieren und rassistisch abzuwerten? Albert Memmis Erläuterungen, das Gespräch wurde schon 1998 in Paris aufgenommen, sind angesichts der Akzeptanz zutiefst rassistischer Parteien durch Teile der Bevölkerung in Europa, wie insbesondere in Deutschland, aktueller denn je.

In our conversation, he attempts to describe the ‘racist’, their motivations, driving forces and characteristics. For Albert Memmi, racism is, first and foremost, neither a theoretical social construct nor a capitalist ideology; rather, Albert Memmi describes racism at the individual level. What direct personal benefit does the individual derive from discriminating against and racially devaluing other people? Albert Memmi’s explanations – the conversation was recorded in Paris as far back as 1998 – are more relevant than ever, given the acceptance of deeply racist parties by sections of the population in Europe, particularly in Germany.
