Markus is the vocalist and guitarist of Swedish metal band LEACH.
Metal has been part of his life since childhood – and what
started as making music with friends eventually became a band
that has stayed together for decades.

We talk about growing up with metal, songwriting, the increasing
professionalization of LEACH and how far you can push a band
without losing the friendship at its core.

Mental health is another important part of our conversation. The
members of LEACH have had different experiences with it and
turned some of those experiences into music. But Markus doesn't
claim to have the answers.

Sometimes asking the question is enough.

From there, our conversation moves beyond music: personal change,
politics, war, uncertainty about the future – and how two people
from Sweden and Germany can quickly find common ground despite
speaking a language that isn't native to either of them.

Maybe we don't need a final answer to every question.

But metal connects.
