A botanical technician takes the overnight growth-monitoring
shift at a Foundation research greenhouse after the previous
technician completes her rotation and leaves one instruction that
is not in any official handover document — a single line written
in pencil on a plant tag and tucked into the soil: "Don't cut
them back." On his third night, during a walkthrough of the empty
quarantine beds, he finds a plant that was not there two hours
ago. It is warm to the touch. It does not match any species in
any database. And when he turns off his torch, the base of the
stem glows amber in the dark. Each night, more appear — different
species, all warm, all luminescent, growing only in darkness,
only in empty soil, filling in every gap the greenhouse offers.
The Night Archivist presents the recovered growth-monitoring log
and one question the file never answers: what the plants were
building, and who it was for.
This is a recovered Foundation encounter presented for slow
nighttime listening. The narration is calm and unhurried across
approximately one hundred minutes, with no jump scares, no sudden
volume changes and no sounds designed to startle you awake. The
full episode plays over a black screen so you can close your eyes
and let the file continue without interruption.
