At 4:41 a.m., just before the Foundation begins to wake, the
night archivist receives one final reminder before shift change:
Still Rooms inspection due before morning.
This calm SCP sleep story follows a quiet pre-dawn walk through a
rarely visited Safe-class storage corridor known as The Still
Rooms — a row of dim containment spaces reserved for anomalies
that do not move, speak, threaten, or chase, but gently change
the feeling of a room simply by existing inside it.
Told in first person, this episode invites you to walk beside the
archivist through the lower Foundation levels with a clipboard, a
ring of keys, a small flashlight, and the tired calm of a long
overnight shift. There are no breach alarms, no monsters in the
hallway, no sudden danger, and no loud jump scares. Only the soft
rhythm of the round: unlock, step inside, observe, make a note,
turn off the light, relock the door, and continue.
Tonight’s inspection includes a glass bowl of black stones that
grow heavier for those carrying unspoken secrets, a yearless
calendar showing a month from a life the viewer almost lived, a
wooden drawer containing the scent of forgotten rooms, reading
glasses that reveal the emotional meaning of unsent notes, a
disconnected rotary telephone that rings before someone remembers
something important, a painting of a dusk field where someone
always seems to have just left, a porcelain dish that collects
drops of water when someone in the building finally falls asleep,
and a brass dream key for doors that are kinder left closed.
As the archivist moves through each room, the story becomes less
about fear and more about timing, memory, rest, and quiet care.
Safe-class does not mean ordinary. It means the Foundation has
learned how to keep something impossible stable for one more
night.
