abhängige und einflusslose Vassallen Washingtons erwiesen. Diese
in einer Demokratie bislang einzigartige politische Machtfülle,
konzentriert auf den amerikanischen Präsidenten, bestimmt bis in
die Gegenwart die amerikanische Politik. George W. Bush, der 43.
Präsident der Vereinigten Staaten, stellte dazu alle notwendigen

/ The attacks of 11 September 2001 not only brought about lasting
changes to the global political landscape; above all, they have
transformed US democracy to this day. It became apparent that the
US Constitution was not equipped to protect American society from
the erosion of civil rights, that the United Nations was too weak
to curb unilateral US foreign policy, and that, in the face of
the US’s quadrillion-dollar investments in military rearmament,
America’s NATO allies proved to be dependent and powerless
vassals of Washington. This concentration of political power –
unprecedented in a democracy to date – centred on the American
President continues to shape American politics to this day.
George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, set the
course for this. In his report, Peter Kreysler explores how
George W. Bush succeeded in transforming American democracy, with
its checks and balances, into an authoritarian, anti-democratic
state structure. Regardless of whether the president came from
the ranks of the Democrats or the Republicans.
