The guest of this episode is Mr Talengwa Kaseza Lukumbuzya from
Tanzania. As Omukama ("king") of the island Ukerewe, he is the
primary custodian of culture, inherited traditions, customs and
language. Mr Kaseza talks about German colonial rule on his
island and present challenges of sustainable development there.
He came to Berlin with a delegation to meet with the Ethnological
Museum, Museum of Natural History and the Botanical Garden. Of
particular significance for them is kigiilya, a key cultural
belonging robbed during German colonialism from the former king,
presently held by the Ethnological Museum Berlin. The
conversation took place on 1 June 2026 in Berlin.
