wie Gold in politisch unsicheren Zeiten als sichere Geldanlage
angesehen. Trotzdem die weltweite Rohdiamantenförderung von über
177 Millionen Karat im Jahr 2005 auf unter 120 Millionen Karat im
Jahr 2022 gesunken ist, künstlich hergestellte Diamanten kaum
mehr von echten zu unterscheiden sind und die Förderstätten wie
in Rußland und Kanada weitgehend erschöpft sind. Was die brutale
Konkurrenz um die weltweiten Ressourcen jedoch eher verschärft
als befriedet hat. Hinzu kommen neue Betrugsmaschen durch den
Verkauf angeblicher Diamanten im Internet..

in-depth podcast, journalists Peter Kreysler and Elise Fried
travelled to Botswana, New York and Angola. They spoke to miners,
producers, diamond dealers and consumers. This is because, just
like gold, diamonds are still regarded as a safe investment in
politically uncertain times such as these. This is despite the
fact that global rough diamond production has fallen from over
177 million carats in 2005 to under 120 million carats in 2022,
lab-grown diamonds are now almost indistinguishable from real
ones, and mining sites in places like Russia and Canada are
largely depleted. This has, however, intensified rather than
eased the fierce competition for global resources. Added to this
are new scams involving the online sale of so-called diamonds.

política como os que vivemos, os diamantes continuam a ser
considerados, tal como o ouro, um investimento seguro. Apesar de
a produção mundial de diamantes em bruto ter descido de mais de
177 milhões de quilates em 2005 para menos de 120 milhões de
quilates em 2022, de os diamantes sintéticos serem praticamente
indistinguíveis dos verdadeiros e de as jazidas, como as da
Rússia e do Canadá, estarem em grande parte esgotadas. O que, no
entanto, intensificou a concorrência brutal pelos recursos
mundiais, em vez de a acalmar. A isto juntam-se novos esquemas
fraudulentos através da venda pela Internet de supostos
diamantes.
