Free Speech on Life Support With Claire Fox

Claire Fox, Baroness Fox of Buckley, is a member of the UK House
of Lords and director of the Academy of Ideas. In conversation
with Giuseppe Gracia, she discusses the fragile state of free
speech in the UK, pressured by expanding hate and harm laws and a
culture that treats offense as injury. Fox argues that subjective
“psychological harm” and victim defined hate are being used to
silence debate and intimidate institutions. Identity politics and
safe space culture, she says, have replaced argument with moral
blackmail and self censorship. Their shared conclusion: there is
no right not to be offended, and only courage can revive the
battle of ideas.
