In this episode of Afrikanische Geschichte, we explore the
most important cause of the Mau Mau Rebellion: land.

For the Kikuyu people in Kenya, land was life. It gave food,
identity, and connection to ancestors. But under British colonial
rule, large areas of fertile land were taken and given to white
settlers. These areas became known as the White Highlands.

Many Kikuyu families were forced to move into crowded reserves.
Others worked on settler farms for low wages. Taxes, ID systems,
and unfair laws made life even harder.

This episode shows how the loss of land created anger, poverty,
and frustration. It explains why land was not just soil — it was
dignity.

Before the forest oaths and the rebellion, there was stolen
earth.
