Older books that deal with the air war in World War 2 are full of
praise for the German jet fighters. They are portrayed as fully
operational, vastly superior combat aircraft and that only
Hitler's stupidity prevented them from being used properly.

But was that really the case? Over the years, I have read more
and more books that gave me another impression - the impression
that these extraordinary and revolutionary aircraft had a big
strength and a big weakness with their engines simultaneously.
And that Hitler's influence wasn't that big after all.

Using the Messerschmidt Me 262 and its Jumo 004- resp. BMW
003-engines, I'll explain what I mean with that.
