Our new SPND20 Mixtape comes from none other than the mighty
@official-mr-g. If you know, you know: Mr. G is one of dance
music’s true originals. From the early days in the legendary KCC
crew and his influential work as half of The Advent, to decades of
solo output under his own name, Colin McBean has never strayed from
his roots. With releases on Rekids, Moods ‘n’ Grooves, Defected,
and his own long-running Phoenix G imprint, his raw, bass-heavy
electronic-tech-funk sound has moved floors and minds all over the
world. Now, for one of his rare mixtape appearances, we’re honored
to share this special vinyl-only piece from his archive. Recorded
on two Technics 1210's and a Rane MP2015 mixer and mixed down to CD
with added weight, the mix had been sleeping for years until Mr. G
pressed play and surprised even himself. It’s meditative, deep, and
packed with the personality you only get when the machines are
running hot. It captures the raw energy, honesty, and unmistakable
feel that only Mr. G can deliver: just pure groove, and even a
cheeky cable cut halfway through that adds to the charm. It’s not
often he shares this side, so we’re grateful he let us dig it out.
For us, it’s a perfect snapshot of where he comes from and what he
still brings to the table today. A true original. So you better put
