In this episode, I speak with the co-directors of No Other Land —
Israeli filmmaker Yuval Abraham and Palestinian journalist and
activist Basel Adra. Their documentary tells the story of Masafer
Yatta in the occupied West Bank and the ongoing threat of forced
displacement faced by its Palestinian residents under Israeli
military rule.
Yuval Abraham is a filmmaker, investigative journalist, and human
rights activist from Jerusalem. A descendant of Holocaust
survivors, he brings a personal and ethical lens to his work —
challenging dominant Israeli narratives and speaking out against
the misuse of antisemitism accusations to silence Palestinian
voices. Basel Adra is a journalist, filmmaker, and activist from
Masafer Yatta, who has spent years documenting life under
occupation and the community’s resistance to displacement.
We talk about their personal and political situation, and what it
takes to sustain collaboration and friendship across deep power
imbalances. For both, reflection on structural violence,
privilege, and the systems that divide is essential — without it,
solidarity becomes hollow or even harmful.
They share about their powerful speech at Berlinale, how the film
has been received in Israel and Palestine, and what it reveals
about broader political and media discourses. Finally, they
address German politics and society, emphasizing responsibility,
complicity, and the urgent need for moral clarity.
