Rām katha traditions in Tamiḷ Nādu trace their roots to to the
literatures of saṇgam (300 BCE - 250 CE) and post saṇgam periods.
Tamiḷ sources intricately weave the narrative of Rām, presenting
a diverse range of perspectives on the heroes and the timeless
tale, thus contributing significantly to the rich Bharatīya
tradition.

From 9th Century CE onwards, sculptural and epigraphic references
to Rāma temples and worship begin to appear in the Chōḷa, Pāṇḍya
and Toṇḍai Maṇḍalam regions of Tamiḷ Nādu. Independent temples of
Rāma were consecrated, images of Rāma were installed and
endowments were provided for conducting daily rituals, worship
and festivals. This devotional cult continued to develop and
evolve throughout the Chōḷa period for the next two and half
Centuries.

on the first 1600 years of Rām katha traditions and Rāma worship

இரண்டாயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாகத் தமிழ் மண்ணில் இராமகதை மரபு
தழைத்தோங்கி வந்துள்ளது. சங்க காலத் தொகை நூல்களில் துவங்கி, சங்கம்
மருவிய காலம், காப்பிய காலம், பக்தி இலக்கிய காலம் என்று ஒவ்வொரு
கால கட்டங்களிலும் வெவ்வேறு படைப்பாளிகள் இராமனையும் இராம கதையையும்
பல்வேறு விதங்களிலும் படம் பிடித்துள்ளனர்.

ஒன்பதாம் நூற்றாண்டு முதல் தமிழகத்தில் இராமனுக்கான தனிக்கோயில்கள்
அமைக்கப்பட்டதை கல்வெட்டுகள் வெளிக்காட்டுகின்றன. பாண்டிய
மன்னர்களும் சோழ மன்னர்களும் இராமனுக்கான கோயில்கள் அமைத்து
அவற்றில் தினசரி வழிபாடுகளுக்காகவும் திருவிழாக்களுக்காகவும்
பலவிதமான நிவந்தக் கொடைகளை ஏற்படுத்தினர். இந்தியாவில் அமைக்கப்பட்ட
இராமன் கோயில்களுள் தமிழகக் கோயில்களே மிகத் தொன்மையானவை என்பது
கல்வெட்டுகளின் வழி தெரிய வரும் உண்மையாகும். அது மட்டுமல்லாமல்
இக்கோயில்கள் பலவும் அயோத்தி இராமன் திருக்கோயிலோடு நெருக்கமான
தொடர்பு கொண்டிருந்ததையும் கல்வெட்டுகள் இனிதே இயம்புகின்றன.

அயோத்திப்பெருமாள் - தமிழ் மரபில் இராமகதை எனும் இந்த ஒலிப்
புத்தகம் தமிழ் மரபின் 1600 ஆண்டுகால இராமகதைத் தொடர்பை விரிவாக
விளக்கும் ஆய்வு நூலாகும். ஆய்வு நூல்களுக்கான துல்லியத்திலிருந்து
விலகாமல் அதே சமயம் விறுவிறுப்புக் குறையாமல் இந்தப் புத்தகம்
