Conversational-journey with David Hayward

Gesprächsreise mit David Hayward

“Everybody deserves the right to explore their spirituality,
express their doubts and beliefs without restraint,

and to be supported on their personal journey.”

The cartoons and artwork I create are huge parts of how I process
the spiritual abuse I once faced and the trauma I’m left with
today.

I now live in the in-between. Deconstruction is a journey, not a
destination. And I’m still on it!

In this episode I talk to David Hayward (better known as the
naked pastor). David is Canadian, happily married for over 40
years and a father of three. He got a Master in Theology and
spent 30 years working as a pastor. His life was centred around
the church. He was brought up in a pentecostal belief/religion
(Pfingstbewegung in German) …until it all came crumbling down.

He is now a cartoonist, author and host of 'the lasting supper'
(TLS).

Since his ‘breakup' with the church in 2009/2010 he has started
to draw comics about his journey of DECONSTRUCTION.

We talk about:

-his background with christianity

-the meaning of deconstruction

-his epiphany about one-ness

-the church’s reaction

-his wife‘s reaction

-his definition of prayer

️ "Whether you’re churched, unchurched, or living in the
in-between….. I hope that somewhere, in my story or in my art,
you can find comfort and support on your journey."
