One year full-scale Russian invasion in Ukraine – how did this
affect both countries economically? In today’s special
(English-language) episode, we discuss the economic consequences of
the war with the Ukrainian economist Timofiy Mylovanov and the
Russian economist Sergei Guriev. Sergei led the New Economic School
in Moscow and was an external consultant of the Cremlin before he
flew into exile in France in 2013, where he is now a professor at
Science Po in Paris. Timofiy is the president of the Kyiv School of
Economics, former minister of Economic Development, Trade and
Agriculture in Ukraine and a consultant to Wolodymyr Selenskyj. We
discuss why GDP is not a good measure of economic wellbeing in
times of war and how one can even calculate the costs of war and
have a look at the long-time economic perspective for Ukraine and
Russia. This episode deals with costs of war, sanctions and
rebuilding. Dieser Beitrag nimmt an Fast Forward Science 2022/23
