In this interview that Ilkay Özkisaoglu conducted during IFAT in München with Nicholas Ecke of sensXPERT - Optimizing Plastics Manufacturing, he gave us these three tips for materials producer and substrate producers once they are really dealing with materials:

First tip for materials processors would be to think about sustainability, about circularity of your products, of your source materials, of your processes.

Second tip would be to make the best use of the data that you have available. Many plastics processors have a wealth of data available from their machines, from measurements that they do in-house, and maybe from sensors that they already have installed in the mold.

Third tip would be don't settle for inefficient processes.

Listen to this episode on how AI can help you improve your material plastic's production process.

What are your experiences on handling polymeric materials?

sensXPERT - Optimizing Plastics Manufacturing CEO Cornelia Beyer expresses her views on running a deep tech company in composites & plastics industry that is a company venture of a tradition SME.

Breaking News: If you are in Orlando, FL, from Monday, 6 May to 10th, please meet Cornelia Beyer and Dr. Alexander Chaloupka of sensXPERT - Optimizing Plastics Manufacturing at the NPE: The Plastics Show

In this episode Cornelia talks about her background, her transition to the composites and plastics industry, and the cultural shift at NETZSCH Group, a traditional company venturing into AI and deep tech.

Since, manufacturing processes are at the core of composites and plastics production, I thought it may be a good idea to explore how AI is penetrating industry.

Much to my surpise most companies do not know how AI can assist in optimising their processes. Again Aerospace seems to be a frontrunner and the US is more inclined towards testing out AI.

Cornelia discusses the challenges of introducing this new technology, achieving certifications, and hightlights participating in industry panels to educate the masses.

Cornelia mentions their planned participation in future events and exhibitions to showcase their products and understand market needs. They will focus on product-related conventions, which I believe is a good approach in getting the word spread.

The conversation provides also some personal insights into Cornelia's journey.

Again, she is in the US right now, that's why we rush this first fully captioned (switch on cc) episode to you. Pay her, Phil and Alexander a visit on their booth next week!

Melted Swiss chocolate on a biscuit rod, what a great metaphor for coating thermoplastics on glassfibres, I thought. And was indeed confirmed.

Well, I am certainly also not free of confirmation bias, but see yourself in the video how chocolate flows.

Are you ready to revolutionize the composite industry with advanced fibre polymer coating technology?

Join us on a journey with Antefil Composite Tech an ETH Zürich spin-off as we explore the future of composites at JEC World 2024 (JEC Group) in Zurich.

Discover how Antefil is pioneering unprecedented advancements with their hybrid fibers coated with thermoplastic matrix, enhancing structural integrity and high-quality results.

Listen to Christoph Schneeberger when he explains to Ilkay Özkisaoglu the benefits of coating fibres rather than non-crimp fibreglass fabrics with thermoplastics. Also watch how the production and final parts looks like made from pre-coated fibreglass.

While Antefil's customer is the fibreglass manufacturing industry they are not only looking deep into automotive, wind and aerospace applications, but also for example the sporting goods industry.

How to recycle 5,000 tons of wind blades in just one plant.

During JEC World 2024 I came across a very promising project funded by the European Commission that I'd like to bring to your attention. Read more about the project here:

https://www.pladostelma.com/en/life-green-composite/

One of our society's huge problems in the future will be the aging of windturbine blades. Each of these blades contain usually 8 metric tons of fibreglass. Add the resin then you see the scale of problem that we will be facing or are already facing.

In this episode I interviewed Giorgio Betteto of Gees Recycling. We start of by inspecting some samples he brought along of recycled composites that feature very solid surfaces. These are hard as ceramic and therefore not only water repellant, but also such impact proof that the can be used as floor tiles.

The interview with Alexander Wiesner took place at their celebration event for Langzauner GmbH's 100th anniversary, where we discussed the company's history, current projects, and future innovations in the composites industry.

Watch the full interview now, because it also covered Langzauner's presence at JEC World 2024 and their expectations from the event.

Particularly, the insights into record braking presses that feed RTM and other infusion technologies with overly large components, exceeding even 10 metres are simply mindblowing.

It was also a great opportunity to talk with the project management team. Bernhard Hauer explained the particularities of the composites industry when it comes to designing parts.

The interview provided insights into Langzauner GmbH's achievements over the past 100 years, their current projects, and their plans for future events like the JEC World 2025 and JEC Forum DACH 2024.

Thank you Thomas Witzmann, MBA,CEO and the leadership team for having Composites Lounge and DER Social CEO being part of your celebration party. May the rocket fuel another 100 years.

Have you ever seen 35,000 (in words Thirtyfivethousand) volts in action?

Alan Harper shows you how you can decrease cost in composites production.

Ian Flavell, Director of a composites manufacturing firm in the UK and André Antunes from Brasil give reallife examples and explain in quite some detail, how much you can save with reusable bags.

Not only is the cost saving a factor that I liked, but also reducing lots of production waste and last, but not least, the surface quality are beyond perfect. Look at the biofibre part. We all know that these pose a challenge sometimes due to natural variances.

Thank you Alan Harper Composites Ltd. and team for the insights into your technology.

And Alan, I need to commend you on your entertaining skills. You are talented with demonstrating complex technical matters in easy to understand language.

Europe will be the first carbon neutral continent of this planet by 2050 and that is why it is good that JEC World 2024 is back to normal. But what does it mean for you?

We analyze the attendance by both quantitative and qualitative measures. In particular, why the sole view on only an ROI on exhibiting or visiting of JW is not sufficient, because the community also wants to inspire endusers with new applications.

We cover in depth the latest news on the Green Deal. The European Commission has just launched a program for advanced materials that is a major opportunity for manufacturers. This means there will be funds available for innovation, because it is the EC's firm intention to become the first continent of this planet to become carbon neutral by 2050.

I find this overly ambitious, but at the same time cannot underline enough that this will only be possible with composites.

Why this is you can hear in this podcast episode.

We are also talking about the Olympics that will open its doors soon in Paris. The surprising part here is the large overlap in mindset of the sporting industry with composites.

What interesting things have you discovered on the showfloor?

Which presentation did you attend during March, 5 to 7?

What are your take aways from this years JW edition?

Happy new year from Composites Lounge and the LinkedIn Industry Community.

Being in the industrial field for over 30+ years I am always eager to present new trends and technologies. Advanced materials have been trending for a while now. I do remember at around Y2K it commenced becoming the go-to solution and represented a true innovation in many fields.

Lately, sustainability has been added and that's why my three content pillars comprise of technology, innovation and sustainability.

I am overly glad that my guest Dr. Timo Huber of ACTC will be available for a live talk. ACTC is a bit particular in that it combines the traits of an R&D Centre and an incubation platform. This business model is an innovation in itself and I am truly wondering what are the similarities and differences of ACTC to a manufacturing corporation and a third party testing entity.

We will delve into also the TRL, that is technology readiness level that many of you may not be aware of. TRL is a term that describes the maturity level of your innovation and whoever is busy with new product development should be aware of it. Needless to say that the European Commission and other governmental bodies require identification of the beneficiary's TRL for grants.

While we have Timo in China, we will show you around the HRC facility. Yes, Timo joins me live from China. There will be an opportunity to talk about thermoset, thermoplast and composite processes in some detail during our stream.

PS: Are you attending JEC World during 5 to 8 March in Paris? Why not visit the booth of HRC (mother of ACTC) and talk first hand with Timo. I will be at JEC, too, and cover the event with my LinkedIn format
