Have you ever had a perfect day, only for an old memory or past heartbreak to ruin it completely? In this solo episode of the Self-Help Show, Gina-Margaret Tiger breaks down the hidden cognitive loop keeping you stuck and reveals how to use the "two can play that game" mindset to build powerful future memories instead.
We’ve all been there: your physical body is sitting in the present moment, but your mind is mentally time-traveling back to an embarrassing moment, a rejection, or an old argument from years ago.
In this episode, we explore why your brain treats old memories like they are happening right now—and why your past seems to have exclusive access to your imagination. But what if you could flip the script? If your brain has the power to make an old, dead memory feel vividly real, you have the exact same neurological capability to build and experience future memories.
Key Takeaways from This Episode
The Mental Time-Travel Trap: Why replaying past conversations and old pain hijacks your good days.
The Memory Illusion: How your brain embellishes and adds "spice" to old incidents, making them feel more important than they are.
Two Can Play That Game: Shifting your imagination away from worrying or regretting, and directing it toward the exact reality you want to experience.
The Meditation Hack: How to observe old mental loops without fighting them so they naturally dissolve.
The 1-Year Exercise: A step-by-step visualization prompt to design what you want to remember one year from today down to the room, the clothes, and the feeling.

When Communication Gets Misunderstood
What happens when you are genuinely trying to communicate, connect and understand someone but your openness is interpreted as being needy, controlling, intense or simply “too much”?
In this episode of The Self Help Show, Gina-Margaret Tiger sits down with Devin Short for a deeply honest conversation about communication, emotional expression, relationships, self-awareness and what happens when good intentions are misunderstood.
Devin shares his experience of being a naturally expressive communicator and wanting to talk things through in order to create clarity and connection. For him, asking questions, expressing what he needs and trying to understand another person are not signs of conflict — they are signs that he cares.
As Devin puts it, when you genuinely invest in someone, you want to understand where they are coming from while also allowing them to understand you.
But emotional communication is not always easy.
Communicating what you need is not automatically asking for too much.
Sometimes it is simply knowing yourself well enough to say:
This is how I feel loved. This is how I feel seen. This is how I feel heard. This is what I need in order to connect with you.
Gina and Devin also explore why emotional communication requires vulnerability. Unlike conversations about work or everyday logistics, relationships often require us to put down the mask, move beyond ego and allow another person to see what is actually happening inside us.
And great communication is not only about expressing yourself.
It is also about empathy and perspective.
Devin shares how some of his greatest emotional growth has come through difficult conversations, a strong support system and learning to consider not only how a situation affects him, but how his own actions may affect another person.
The conversation then moves into something even deeper: never having to dim your light to make a relationship work.
Devin reflects on recognizing moments when he was no longer fully showing up as the energetic, goofy, expressive person he naturally is — and why the right relationships should bring more of your light out of you, not require you to become less of yourself.
He also speaks candidly about being his own harshest critic, overanalyzing himself and learning to extend more compassion toward his own growth.
Because none of us have communication completely figured out.
We are all works in progress.
Devin also shares what life looks like for him today as he continues discovering who he is beyond professional rugby.
From building an academy that brings principles from rugby into football, to modeling, DJing, entrepreneurship and learning how to use AI without losing his own creativity, Devin is entering a chapter centered on growth, experimentation and becoming more fully himself.
And when asked what being truly understood feels like, his answer was beautifully simple:
Blissful.
A Question to Take With You
Before your next important conversation, ask yourself:
Am I listening only to respond — or am I genuinely trying to understand this person?
Because communication is more than talking.
It is curiosity.
It is vulnerability.
It is perspective.
It is allowing another person to tell you what they need without immediately judging the need.
And sometimes, simply being willing to have the conversation is one of the clearest ways of saying:
I care about you.

What emotional state is making your decisions?
In this solo episode of The Self Help Show, Gina explores how anger, fear, panic, jealousy, hurt, peace, love, dignity, and self-respect can completely change the choices we make.
A temporary emotion can create a permanent consequence.
That is why emotional intelligence is not about ignoring what you feel. It is about knowing which emotions deserve to be heard and which ones should not be making major decisions for you.
This episode is an invitation to pause before reacting, return to a higher emotional state, and make decisions you can still respect tomorrow.
In this episode:
Why anger can create decisions we later regret
The danger of making permanent choices from temporary emotions
How fear, panic, revenge, and humiliation affect judgment
Why emotions are information, not always instruction
How to pause before reacting
The difference between feeling an emotion and acting from it
Why love, peace, dignity, patience, and self-respect create better decisions
How to make firm decisions without making them from anger
Why sometimes the best decision is to make no decision yet
How to choose an emotional state before choosing an action
Questions to sit with:
What emotional state is making this decision?
Would I make the same choice if I were peaceful right now?
Am I choosing from anger, fear, pride, or revenge?
What would love choose?
What would dignity choose?
What would self-respect choose?
Will I still respect this decision tomorrow?
And perhaps the biggest question:
Who do you want to be when life gives you every reason to react?
You are allowed to feel everything.
But not every emotion needs decision-making power.
Feel it. Pause. Return to yourself. Then choose.

What If Your Life Was Never Meant to Follow a Template?
What if the life that fits you best was never supposed to look like anyone else’s?
In this solo episode of The Self Help Show, Gina explores uniqueness, authenticity, self-trust, and the confidence that comes from understanding your own configuration instead of constantly measuring yourself against other people’s methods.
There is no other person with your exact combination of experience, perspective, ability, instincts, interests, timing, and imagination.
So why would your life need to follow an exact template?
This episode is about paying closer attention to the clues that reveal who you naturally are, what consistently works for you, what you may have been editing or minimizing, and what becomes possible when you stop trying to be universally understandable and start becoming more fully yourself.
In this episode:
How to recognize the patterns that make you uniquely you
Why authenticity begins with self-observation
How outside expectations can quietly shape your identity
What your natural strengths, curiosities, and preferences reveal
Why your differences are valuable information
How to learn from others without losing your own voice
Why confidence grows when you trust your own configuration
How to build methods, routines, and choices that actually fit you
The importance of owning what makes you different
Why your life can become more powerful as it becomes more specific to you
Questions to sit with:
Who are you when nobody is influencing you?
What do you naturally do well?
What keeps returning to you throughout your life?
What parts of yourself have you been editing or minimizing?
What do you secretly know about yourself?
What would your life look like if you trusted your uniqueness completely?
And most importantly:
Who are you when you are no longer trying to be understandable to everybody else?
Your life does not have to be a copy.
You can learn from others, take what helps, leave what does not, and still create something entirely your own.
Your configuration is the clue. Your authenticity is the direction. Your confidence grows when you trust both.

What Do You Regret the Most? Self-Condemnation & the Stories We Keep Punishing Ourselves With
What if the thing you regret most is no longer something you need to punish yourself for?
In this solo episode of The Self Help Show, Gina explores regret, hindsight, self-forgiveness, and the invisible ways we can keep ourselves trapped through self-condemnation.
Sometimes the event happened once, but we keep replaying it internally for years. We reopen old decisions, prosecute former versions of ourselves, and use the past as evidence against who we are today.
But what happens when you stop asking, “Why did I do that?” and start asking, “What did this teach me?”
Gina reflects on decisions she once believed she would regret, only to later realize that many of them redirected her, protected her, clarified her values, or ultimately worked in her favour.
This episode is an invitation to separate learning from punishment.
Because growth does not require a lifelong sentence.
In this episode:
Why hindsight can make us unfairly judge our former selves
How regret can quietly become self-condemnation
The difference between accountability and self-punishment
Why constantly reopening old decisions can weaken self-trust
How to reinterpret choices that once felt like mistakes
Why endings, losses, and redirections can make sense later
How to keep the lesson without carrying the punishment
Learning to back the person you were with the knowledge you have now
Questions to sit with:
What are you still sentencing yourself for?
How long do you believe you need to suffer before you are allowed to forgive yourself?
What if the decision you regret actually redirected your life?
What did that experience teach you?
And what are you finally ready to stop using against yourself?
Decision closed. Lesson received. No punishment required.

Have you ever known exactly what you wanted to change, yet somehow found yourself repeating the same habit, reaction, relationship pattern, fear, or emotional response?
In this episode of The Self Help Show, Gina-Margaret Tiger sits down with Dr. John McGrail, clinical hypnotherapist, personal performance coach, spiritual teacher, and author of The Synthesis Effect: Your Direct Path to Personal Power and Transformation.

Can we actually reprogram ourselves and create a different experience of life?

In this solo episode of The Self Help Show, Gina-Margaret Tiger explores that strange emotional space where life can be calm, exciting, even beautiful yet internally, there is still a feeling that something needs to be fixed, prepared for, or worried about.
This episode is a personal reflection on nervous system regulation, emotional states, mindset, faith, free will, and learning how to remain in peace when peace itself feels unfamiliar.
Gina asks an important question:
Are we really regulating the nervous system — or does everything ultimately begin with the mind?
In this episode:
Why you can feel uneasy even when nothing is wrong
Why some of us become so accustomed to pressure that peace can feel unfamiliar
The habit of scanning your life for problems
Nervous system regulation in simple, everyday language
The relationship between your mind, emotions, and internal state
Why old emotional cycles can try to repeat themselves
Faith, free will, and remembering who you are
Why happiness, love, joy, and peace require conscious maintenance
The difference between what Gina describes as a “hell emotional state” and a “heavenly emotional state”
Why you should allow yourself to fully enjoy good news
Choosing not to abandon peace simply because part of you expects something to go wrong
One of the central ideas in this episode is that when you have lived under pressure for a long time, peace can initially feel unfamiliar.
Gina describes it simply:
If you have become accustomed to hell, heaven can feel strange at first.
The work then becomes learning to stay there — emotionally, mentally, and spiritually — rather than unconsciously returning to a state that simply feels more familiar.
So when the job comes through, the project is confirmed, the funding arrives, the support appears, or life simply feels good:
Stay there. Rejoice in it. Immerse yourself in it.
You do not have to search for a problem simply because nothing is currently wrong.
If this episode speaks to you, share it with someone who may need the reminder that they are allowed to experience peace without preparing for its disappearance.

What if divorce didn’t have to mean the end of the family but instead, the beginning of a different version of it?
In this deeply personal episode of The Self Help Show, Gina sits down with Chris and Rebecca, co-founders of Redefining Family, California-licensed attorneys, certified divorce coaches, former spouses, and co-parents who have experienced this transition themselves.
Together, they explore what it really takes to move through divorce without allowing the breakdown of a romantic relationship to become the breakdown of the entire family.
The conversation covers communication, co-parenting, protecting children during divorce, emotional responsibility, rebuilding trust, creating healthy boundaries, and learning how to build a new relationship with your former partner that is focused on the future rather than the past.
In this episode:
Can you divorce without breaking the family?
How to know when a marriage is no longer working
Why communication problems can slowly destroy relationships
How divorce affects children differently from adults
Why children should never become their parents’ emotional support system
How to protect children from adult conflict
Why successful co-parenting does not require friendship
Rebuilding trust through small, consistent actions
Ending the old romantic relationship before creating a co-parenting relationship
Why divorce should be approached as more than just a legal process
The Integrated Divorce Method
How adult children of divorce can rethink what they learned about relationships growing up
Why a changing family does not necessarily mean a broken family
One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation is simple:
A family can change without being destroyed.
With the right communication, boundaries, support, and intention, parents can create a new family structure where children continue to feel safe, loved, supported, and connected.
Chris and Rebecca also explain why friendship between former partners should not necessarily be the goal. Instead, the foundation can simply be respect, trust, consistency, and an alliance around the wellbeing of the children.

What if the next version of your life doesn’t require you to add more — but to finally let go of what no longer belongs?
In this episode of The Self Help Show, Gina sits down with Cindy Koehler, founder of Mind Garage, mindset and business coach, and author of the upcoming book Manifest YOU: How to Step into the Future You to Change Everything.
Cindy’s work centres on the connection between mindset, identity and personal change. With more than 20 years in education, over 25 years in business, and decades of experience exploring meditation, mindfulness and human behaviour, she helps people understand why change can feel difficult even when they already know what they want.
This conversation explores what it means to empty the drawer first — to look at the old identities, familiar patterns, beliefs, expectations and internal stories that may still be shaping your decisions long after you’ve outgrown them.
Gina and Cindy unpack the difference between simply trying harder and actually becoming the person capable of creating a different life.
They also explore why some people remain stuck even with the right knowledge, why identity can become the ceiling on growth, and how reinvention begins when we stop operating from patterns that once felt familiar but no longer fit where we’re going.
Cindy’s work identifies patterns such as self-judgement, scarcity, comparison, catastrophising, perfectionism, control and threat-based thinking as some of the behaviours that can quietly influence the way people show up in life and business.
In this episode, you’ll hear about:
Why knowing what to do is not always enough to create change
The identities and patterns we continue carrying without realising it
Why adding more habits, strategies and self-development may not always be the answer
How your identity can become the ceiling on your growth
The difference between willpower and identity-led transformation
Why reinvention often requires letting go before moving forward
Self-trust and giving yourself permission to become someone new
What it means to step into your future self
Why familiar patterns can feel safer than unfamiliar success
Cindy’s upcoming book, Manifest YOU
The idea behind her M.Y.O.U. Method, a four-stage framework for identity-led change
At the heart of Cindy’s work is a powerful idea: sometimes the problem isn’t that you need another strategy. Sometimes the version of you currently running the show has simply reached its limit.
And before you fill your life with something new, you may need to empty the drawer first.

What if your life isn’t going as badly as it feels but you’ve been viewing everything from an emotional state that makes it difficult to see what is already good?
In this solo episode of the Self Help Show, Gina Margaret Tiger explores what it means to become emotionally lost: physically present in your life, yet emotionally consumed by what is missing, delayed or unresolved.
You may know where you live, what you’re building and what you want next—but where have you been living emotionally?
Gina invites you to examine your “emotional home”: the feelings you return to most often when nothing is distracting you. Has worry become familiar? Has disappointment become your default? Have you been so focused on your next destination that you’ve stopped emotionally registering how far you have already come?
Through personal reflection, biblical wisdom and a practical emotional check-in exercise, this episode will help you redirect your attention and return to what Gina calls the heavenly emotions: love, joy, peace, gratitude, faith, hope, compassion, contentment and freedom.
You are not emotionally lost once you can identify where you are and remember that you have the power to return.
