A firm may reduce its turnover and the entailed turnover costs by raising wages. A rise in unemployment reduces turnover and turnover costs in a similar way. The interaction of these effects leads – in presence of perfectly flexible wages – to a stable equilibrium in the labor market which clears the market but accidentally. Unemployment increases with increases in labor mobility. Wage differentials arise between perfectly identical workers working in different firms that face different turnover costs.

Labour managed firms face some serious problems with regard to the provision of capital, especially of risk-bearing capital. These difficulties are discussed in the first part of the paper. Subsequently it is argued that these problems are rooted in the fact that the workers are insufficiently committed to the long run well-being of the labour managed firm, i.e. in the lacking of a sufficient commitment mechanism. An interchange of the roles which capital and labour play under capitalism would require tradable job rights, an arrangement which is not feasible. It is concluded therefrom that any workable labour managed economy needs a special commitment mechanism. A high rate of unemployment might serve for this purpose, or, more attractively, a reduction of labour mobility through appropriate incentives like seniority-dependent remuneration schemes.

The linear savings function in Stiglitz' model of wealth distribution is replaced by the assumption that the average savings propensity of each individual is determined by its relative income position and the marginal propensity to save is an increasing function of individual income. It is shown that the model generates locally stable two-class equilibria under certain conditions which are analyzed carefully. In other words, Pasinetti-type class savings behaviour is explained endogeneously. A two-class property of nonstationary solutions is explained

This paper outlines a variant of Nicholas Kaldor's growth model. An important feature of this model is that it generates steady state growth and Harrod Neutrality of technical progress endogenously. The effect of various assumption on investment bevavior are studied.

A Ricardian Growth theory is developed along the lines indicated by Kaldor . The dynamics of the model as well as the role of manufacture is considered. It is hoped that the proposed formulation sheds some additional light on how the formation of wages, rents, and profits has been conceived by Ricardo
