Sony has finally released its Second Life-ish virtual world
Home for the PlayStation 3. It's still officially in beta form, but
now everyone can now enjoy the simple pleasure of decorating their
very own virtual apartment and being virtually socially
awkward.
Google said at the LeWeb conference in Paris that it will bring
its web browser Chrome out of beta sometime soon, perhaps even as
early as tomorrow. This could pave the way for a pre-installation
deal between Google and computer manufacturers. Can you say
Internet Explorer vs. Netscape part two?
Google has started adding digitized copies of magazines to its
Book Search database. Now you can find all of those New York
magazine, Popular Science and Jet articles that you missed out on
when they first appeared in print decades ago.
Movies have been disappearing from iTunes and Netflix at a fairly
regulary rate. What could be behind this mysterious phenomenon?
Well, if you guessed lisenecing disputes, you won't be that
surprised.
TiVo's new Pause Menu service lets advertisers display ads
whenever users pause live TV. I wish we could fast-forward to see
if the new service helps TiVo win back subscribers, boosts the
company's falling revenue and explains what the hell that smoke
monster really is.
The NBA has teamed up with Turner sports to broadcast February
14's"NBA All-Star Saturday Night" in 3-D at 80 movie theaters
around the country. Because nothing says "I love you" like
watching a 3-D slam dunk contest with a theater full of
strangers.
Starting next year, Hewlett-Packard will begin selling a new
laptop battery that won't start degrading for three years. It can
also be charged to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes. I've also
heard it can solve crimes, but that sounds more like a
half-truth.
