Microsoft, Google and Yahoo have joined the Global Network
Initiative, a worldwide coalition formed to protect freedom of
expression and privacy online. It certainly sounds like a noble
enough cause, but Amnesty International doesn't seem to think
so.
Australia plans to force all local Internet service providers to
filter out objectionable material. And while there was talk of
letting all you kiddie-porn lovers opt-out of the program, that
might not be the case.
RSA's annual survey has found that London is the Wi-Fi captial of
the world, with over 12,000 wireless access points.
A British company has developed a bombproof trashcan that also
displays news and travel information via LCD screens. I've said
it before, and I'll say it again: it's about time.
Electronic Arts says it will cut around 600 jobs after a
disappointing financial quarter. The tech industry also continues
to see widespread layoffs.
Microsoft has apparently stationed a "I'm a PC" kiosk in front of
an Apple store in England. Visitors can use the booth to make
their own pro-PC ad and then buy an iPhone. Everyone wins.
Time Magazine has announced its top 50 inventions of 2008.
23andMe's personal gene-testing kit topped the list,
followed by 49 other insanely cool inventions that you should
