Everyone talks about mermaids and sirens… but almost nobody asks
the obvious question: what about the mermen? In this episode of
The Deepest Rabbit Hole, we’re diving into centuries of merman
folklore and the much stranger theories surrounding what could
exist beneath our oceans. What if the stories aren’t describing
isolated creatures at all? What if they’re describing entire
families, communities—or civilizations—beneath the water?We’re
going down the rabbit hole of mermen and male water spirits,
alleged demonic marine civilizations, Antarctica, underwater cave
systems, and the theory that vast submerged networks could
connect bodies of water across the planet.Could ancient stories
from completely different cultures be describing variations of
the same beings? Could underwater caves provide pathways into
places humans have barely explored? And why have mermaids and
sirens become so famous while their male counterparts are almost
completely left out of the conversation? Some of what we discuss
comes from folklore and religious/spiritual traditions, while
other parts are theories and speculation. This episode explores
the connections rather than presenting them as established
fact.Welcome back to The Deepest Rabbit Hole.
