Think about the last time you were absolutely sure you saw
something.
You noticed a look, a gesture, or a movement. You made sense of
it almost instantly. You didn't stop to question what it meant.
But what if seeing something and understanding it correctly
aren't the same thing?
Can you trust what you see?
In Episode 21 of WHAT WOULD YOU TRUST?, we begin
a new chapter exploring trust by examining something we rely on
every day: our own perception.
Imagine two people witnessing exactly the same scene. One sees
anger. The other sees fear. One believes someone is hiding
something. The other thinks they're simply distracted.
Neither person has to be lying. Both may genuinely believe what
they saw.
So how can the same moment lead to two completely different
conclusions?
Our brains constantly interpret the world around us. They
recognize patterns, use context, and fill in missing details.
Most of the time, this helps us navigate everyday life. But
sometimes, our interpretations lead us somewhere the evidence
doesn't support.
A brief glance becomes a sign of rejection. A shadow becomes
something threatening. An incomplete observation becomes a story
we're convinced is true.
And those stories can influence how we feel, how we treat other
people, and what we choose to believe.
This isn't about distrusting everything you see. It's about
recognizing the difference between what you actually observe and
what you assume it means.
Because sometimes, the most convincing part of a mistaken belief
is how certain it feels.
What did I actually observe — and what have I added to
the story?
That small question might change the way you understand the world
around you.
