Hindol Sengupta joins Supertalks to decode Bengal's past, present
and future. Professor, author of 13 books, Chevening Scholar at
Oxford, Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia and former Head of
Strategy and Research at Invest India, Hindol brings a unique
perspective as a Bengali who has studied both India and the
world.

This episode covers Bengal's economic glory, the Bengal
Renaissance, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Swami Vivekananda,
Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. We explore how British
rule transformed Bengal, how decades of political rule changed
the state, and the ideological shift reshaping West Bengal today.

We also discuss elections, political violence, demographics,
illegal immigration, Bengal's cultural identity and what the
state needs to do to rebuild its economy and institutions.

And then comes one of India's biggest political questions: Did
Gandhi stop Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel from becoming India's first
Prime Minister in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru?

Bengal's past, present and future — and the question of whether
it can find its way back.
