Uhhh premiere: the first english episode!!!

It’s around midnight on the last day of our trip for the
Continental Surf Cup 2026. Team Europe had just finished a BBQ
and we’d had a few beers. I actually had planned to ask Gilbert
to do an episode beginning oft he week…but you know…it got busy,
we were surfed out…and sometimes you are just too lazy. However,
i really did not wanna miss this opportunity. So I asked: Gilly,
should we still record taht epidsode??

“Right now?!”

Yep.

So we grabbed two more beers, set everything up in Gilbert’s
bedroom and just went for it.

Gilbert Yeh Zhi Hui is from Singapore and surfs at the citywave
there. Together with two others, he has been developing a
coaching concept for Rapid Surfing from scratch – in a part of
the world where the sport is still very new.

Rapid Surfing is still pretty new in Asia, so Gilbert and others
are looking towards Europe for inspiration through social media,
videos and the people they meet. But a lot of what he knows
today, he had to figure out himself.

In this episode, we talk about his journey from skateboarding and
wakesurfing into Rapid Surfing, building the scene in Singapore
and what it’s like to develop a sport when there are only a few
waves and not much existing knowledge around.

We also get his perspective on European Rapid Surfing, the
differences in style, why European surfers are so good at
adapting to new waves, and which surfers and manoeuvres inspire
him.

Get ready for a relaxed conversation about Rapid Surfing in Asia,
building a scene from scratch, different surf styles and how the
sport is connecting people across continents.
