Did you know the United States fought the British Empire twice?!
Join Mira and Finn as they dive into the wild, explosive history
of the War of 1812! When the powerful British navy starts
kidnapping American sailors and blocking trade on the ocean, the
young United States decides it is time to fight back. Its first
big plan? Invade Canada! But that turns out to be far harder than
anyone expected, as Canadian militia, British soldiers and Mohawk
warriors push the invasions back. This episode is packed with
unbelievable true stories! You will hear about a brave naval
commander who rowed a tiny wooden boat straight through a storm
of flying cannonballs on Lake Erie to win a massive battle. You
will meet Tecumseh, the brilliant Shawnee leader who united
nations across the frontier to defend their homes. Then, travel
to Washington D.C., where the British burn the White House as
payback for American troops burning the parliament buildings at
York, and First Lady Dolley Madison gives the order to rescue a
famous portrait of George Washington before the flames arrive.
Finally, look up at the sky to see a gigantic flag surviving a
25-hour bombardment at Fort McHenry, inspiring the poem that
became the Star-Spangled Banner! Discover why Americans,
Canadians and Native nations all remember this strange war so
differently. Grab your spyglass and get ready for a history
adventure full of strange facts, big explosions, and incredible
bravery!
