School occupation in Italy

In April 2026, pupils at the Liceo Minghetti in Bologna, Italy,
occupied their school.

In protest against the Meloni government, in protest against
ever-increasing military spending whilst schools fall into
disrepair. They are fighting back against the ‘school cage’. In
response, the FDJ released a sticker featuring a photo of the
occupation on one side and a photo of the newly deployed
Bundeswehr brigade in Lithuania on the other, with the text:
‘We’d rather occupy our schools than other countries!’

We were at the summer camp organised by the student organisation
Cambiare Rotta and the pupil organisations OSA in Italy. That’s
how the sticker found its way back to the pupils at Minghetti.
And that’s how we got talking. We spoke to three comrades about
their experiences during the occupation of their school.
