  4. Old Values, Modern Dog Training – What We Must Not Forget | Hans Verbruggen #128
️ Kynotalk #128 – with Hans VerbruggenIn this episode, Hans
Verbruggen returns to the Kynotalk studio.

Flo and Hans talk about how the dog training world has changed
over the past few years — and why more access to knowledge does
not automatically create better dogs, better handlers, or better
training.

A major part of the conversation focuses on breeding, selection,
and the question of whether we sometimes try to turn dogs into
something they were never meant to be. Hans speaks openly about
why testing, working ability, and old values in sport and working
dog programs should not be lost — and why saying a dog is “not
good enough” should not be treated as an insult, but as part of
honest selection.

The episode also takes a deeper look at pressure in training:
when it is useful, when it comes too early, and why real
stability often develops through shared challenges between dog
and handler. Flo and Hans discuss training patterns,
anticipation, sport dogs, working quality, and why dogs should
not only perform — they also need to be understood.

Another interesting part of the episode is Hans’ experience
working with shelter dogs in Slovakia. He talks about what
surprised him, what challenged his assumptions, and what trainers
can learn from seeing dogs in a very different environment. An
honest, direct, and practical conversation about dog training,
breeding, responsibility, working ability, and how we can prepare
dogs better without overwhelming them too early.
