Across the ancient world once stood an empire so vast it
stretched from Egypt to the Indus Valley—Achaemenid
Empire.
Founded by Cyrus the Great, this Persian
superpower ruled millions of people from many cultures,
languages, and religions. Instead of ruling only through fear,
Persian kings developed systems of administration, communication,
and tolerance that helped hold one of the largest empires in
history together.
Later rulers like Darius I expanded these
systems—building royal roads, organizing provinces, and turning
the empire into one of the most efficient governments of the
ancient world.
But even the greatest empires eventually face challengers.
