Why farming isn't a sure thing: Two dead sheep, a ruined harvest,
and a historical example from Australia's colonial era - three
stories that show what happens when people romanticize and
underestimate farming. A friend suddenly loses animals because he
didn't recognize parasites. Another fails at growing his own
veggies because he underestimated the need for water, care, and
pest control. And when the British Crown settled Australia, it
became clear that without experienced farmers, it was impossible
to feed a population. This episode dispels the myth of the
“simple country life.” It shows why agriculture is highly complex
- and why we need more respect for the people who make our food
possible.
