Mexico is pursuing an ambitious plan to increase domestic dairy
production by 25% by 2030, backed by a $4.1 billion investment
aimed at modernizing infrastructure and reducing reliance on U.S.
imports. While the strategy seeks to strengthen food security and
support smaller farmers, it could disrupt established dairy
exporters in the U.S. and Europe. At the same time, extreme heat,
water scarcity, and high interest rates pose serious constraints.
In the long run, the expansion may primarily benefit large,
technologically advanced operations rather than the broader
farming sector.
