This article examines the structural transformation reshaping the
UK dairy sector as major processors like Arla and Müller invest
heavily in new capacity. Despite record milk volumes and
seemingly favorable feed-to-milk price ratios, many mid-sized
farms are slipping into a profitability trap. Large, efficient
operations benefit from scale, while traditional farms face
mounting pressure to either improve efficiency, pivot into niche
markets such as organic or direct sales, or plan an orderly exit.
The core message is clear: waiting for market recovery is no
longer a viable strategy in today’s dairy economy. With comments
